We Want You!

We are now accepting nominations for the 2010 AAS Awards

Yes, we do want you, to recognize and celebrate your efforts supporting Georgia Adopt-A-Stream and water quality throughout the State. We encourage you to nominate yourself or others for any one of the seven categories listed below, so please take a moment to reflect on your activities and submit a well-deserved nomination!

Nominations should include a short description of how the volunteer(s) embodied the four goals of Adopt-A-Stream (Awareness, Data collection, Partnerships, Tools and Training) and excelled in their volunteerism and water protection over the last year. Supporting materials such as newspaper clippings, reports, and photographs are also accepted. To find last year's winners, please see our March/April 2010 newsletter (http://georgiaadoptastream.com//newsletters/2010/Mar_Apr2010.pdf).

Deadline for submissions: January 10, 2011.

Awards will be given at our volunteer conference called 'The Confluence' to be held at Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center on Saturday, March 26th, 2011. Award winners will receive free registration to The Confluence.

VOLUNTEER AWARD CATEGORIES

Volunteer of the Year
This goes to the individual who has gone beyond the call of duty to protect Georgia's waterways and to support the Adopt-A-Steam mission, giving their time and energy to improve water quality.
Extraordinary Volunteer Watershed Effort
Protection of our streams starts with the protection of our watersheds. Help us recognize the group that has accomplished working at the watershed level to better understand and improve water quality.
Red Flag Award
Have you taken action to address a water quality problem at your sampling site? Do you understand when an issue needs to be addressed and even more so, take action to find a resolution to the issue?
Outstanding Outreach and Partnership
The first step in conservation is awareness. And awareness only happens through effective outreach efforts and partnerships. Nominate a group or person that has demonstrated skill in effectively implementing AAS outreach efforts and/or that has created a strong network of community partnerships.
Adopt-A-Stream in Action
Reaching out to local communities about environmental issues can be done in a multitude of ways. This award goes to the group who has gone above and beyond by utilizing non-traditional formats (multimedia, art, website, music, You Tube, etc.) to raise awareness about water quality.
Excellence in Data Collection
Volunteer monitoring data can make a difference, but only if it's collected consistently and under a QA/QC plan. Nominate an individual or group who has consistently collected AAS QA/QC quality data, recognizing the importance of data integrity in your monitoring program.
Nymph Award
Are you or someone you know new to the AAS program in the past year and have excelled in meeting its four goals?
